Chenango Valley Highschool hosts presentations to warn students about the dangers of substance abuse

CHENANGO VALLEY (WBNG) — Chenango Valley Middle School and High School helps inform students on the dangers of substance abuse disorder.

A presentation held Wednesday started with a thirty minute film titled “If they had known”, a documentary about the risks of party culture.

Following the showing, Drug Free Communities and Broome County Overdose Prevention debriefed the students and held a Q&A.

A community member directly impacted by substance use disorder was also available to speak to the students about their story.

One student took away an important lesson.

“I learned that mixing prescription drugs and alcohol one time, can cost you your life and your future.” said Sophomore Fisher Sullivan.

A total of two presentations were held throughout the day on Wednesday, one in the morning for 9-10 grade students and one in the afternoon for 11-12 grade students.

An additional presentation was held at night that was open to community members and parents, at that presentation local law enforcement, first responders, community members and school officials were available for a Q&A session.
