SYRACUSE (WBNG) – On Friday night, Susquehanna Valley won its second straight Class C state title by knocking off Gouvernour, 22-0. The team lost 18 seniors after last year’s title but finished the year with the school’s second football championship.
The Sabers were dominant from the start, scoring on their first drive and never looking back. Matt Fiorentino, Logan Haskell and Mitch Knapp had the three Susquehanna Valley touchdowns. Anthony Dominguez provided an interception in the shutout performance.
Logan Haskell was named the game MVP. The Sabers have now won 26 games in a row, the longest streak in New York State.
“It’s exhilarating, you know it’s exhilarating. The kids really stepped up on defense, I was so proud of them today, the last two weeks we played some very good football teams, and we knew that our defense had been solid all year and they stepped up today, offense grinded it out. Very good football team we played, they were very physical so proud of the kids right now and really thankful. You know I probably won’t realize it until sometime tomorrow, right now it is just hitting me. I am just so proud of these kids and this battle, they fight back from adversity and I’m really proud of them,” said Susquehanna Valley head coach Mike Ford.
“Excitement and emotional, the whole team going back to back is great our community came out to support us hugely and they were behind us the whole way,” said Susquehanna Valley junior Logan Haskell.
