(WBNG) -- Wednesday night the WBNG Harvest for Hunger Phone-A-Thon raised more than $14,000 for Catholic Charities of Broome County.
Catholic Charities says this is the most that's been raised in a night from the annual event. One community member gave a single donation of $5,000.
"This is truly a great event," said Tom Julian from sponsor, Fidelis Care.
All the donations will go to help families struggling with hunger in our area this holiday season.
Executive Director of the Catholic Charities of Broome County, Lori Accardi, says a small donation can go very far for one family, saying, "By getting the food, they can pay other bills. It relieves their mind mentally from being stressed out over finances."
The one night total nearly matches the two night total from 2018, which was around $14,500.
The Phone-A-Thon continues Thursday, December 5 from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on WBNG.
