RICHFORD (WBNG) -- Residents in Richford have one word on their minds: finally. More than six years after it closed, the Town of Richford finally has a brand new post office.
Officials said the original post office closed in 2013 after flooding led to environmental concerns.
There was a temporary post office in town for a while, but that closed in February so the new one could be built. Residents said construction on the new building finished this summer, but other challenges led to the delayed opening.
The town supervisor said having a new post office is not only good for business, it helps build the town's identity.
"It's extremely important to the town, I mean we're what we call centrally isolated here and everything is 20 miles from here so it's so nice having, with the Mirabito in town and the post office back in town, it gives people a reason to stay in town and do business here."
A spokesperson for the postal service said she appreciates residents' patience with the process, and says the new post office will open up business in Richford to the world.
Although the entire post office will only be open for a few hours during the morning, the lobby is open 24/7, allowing residents to send and pickup mail whenever they want.
