Forecast Discussion

Mainly cloudy skies persist overnight with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Most of Wednesday is dry with some sunshine and clouds through early afternoon. Clouds increase through the day and by evening should be mainly cloudy. There is a small chance of a late day rain or freezing rain shower. The best chance of any freezing rain would be over the higher elevations. We do not anticipate any significant icing. Highs climb into the upper 30s to around 40. A low pressure center swings through Wednesday night and keeps a few rain showers in the forecast.

High temperatures on Thursday occur early in the morning, perhaps even predawn, because once the cold front with the above mentioned low crosses, temperatures begin falling. By later in the day temperatures drop into the 20s. Winds will increase Thursday and could gust to 40-45mph. The highest gusts are expected over higher terrain. A snowfall map for lake effect snow through Thursday is available in the forecast video above.

Lake effect snow continues into Friday morning. With the winds, blowing and drifting will make driving in the bands slow and possibly slick.

Friday will be windy and much colder with highs in only in the teens. Chills Friday will be near and below 0. Low pressure moves into the Great Lakes and northeast Saturday and the chance of accumulating snow in increasing. It does NOT look like a major, crippling snowfall, but plowing/shoveling will likely be needed. We'll have any needed snowfall accumulation maps later this week as we get closer to the event. Highs stay in the upper 20s. Sunday temperatures bump into the low and mid 30s with a chance of some snow showers. Deep cold arrives Monday and it builds in Monday night through at least Tuesday night. Highs Monday and Tuesday are in the teens. Overnight lows will be in the single digits, to even below zero.
