OWEGO (WBNG) - Over the last few basketball seasons, the Owego girls team has represented as one of the best in the Southern Tier, and a big part of that is due to Kaci Donovan, who just received national recognition.
"I was on Instagram I think and the Penn State women's basketball page tagged me in a photo and I saw it and I was like whoa," said Owego senior Kaci Donovan.
A priceless reaction for a pricess honor, a nomination to be a 2020 McDonald's All-American.
"I was super surprised it was a great honor especially being a high schooler from a small town," said Donovan.
Owego, New York. Population 19,883 and now has a high school athlete who is one of just 900 girls in the country nominated to be an All-American.
"I've always came from this small town, never going to forget it, this place has shaped me to who I am and I will never forget it."
And now this small town girl is off to a big pond, Penn State University which is bringing in a recruiting class with three other All-American nominees.
"My dad went there when he was in college, we've always been Penn State fans forever it was kind of in my blood always cheering for Penn State since I was a child."
Before Donovan heads to to Happy Valley she has some unfinished business at Owego.
"We are all rebuilding we lost a lot of starters from last year but we're all learning how to play with each other and we're all starting to play really well with each other now."
No matter the result of this season Donovan has already left a lasting legacy with the Owego Indians.
"I just want to be remembered as that kid that was a gym rat, always worked hard since she was really young and having big dreams from a small school."
Hoping to use that legacy to pass along those big dreams to the next group of Indians.
"I would tell them to work hard, never stop, never let up don't let people's opinions affect you ever just keep going," said Donovan.
