(WBNG/AP) -- According to Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen, former Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas has been hired to manage the New York Mets. The deal is two year, guaranteed.
Rojas managed the Rumbles Ponies in 2017 and 2018. Prior to managing the Rumble Ponies, Rojas managed the Port. St. Lucie Mets. He played a significant role in developing numerous players on the Mets current roster, including Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil. Rojas served as the Mets quality control coach in 2019.
Mets Beat Reporter Anthony DiComo broke the news in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.
Rojas replaces Carlos Beltran, who stepped down from his position due to his involvement in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. Beltran resigned before managing a game.
