Two arrested after drug bust, one released on bail reform law

BINGHAMTON (WBNG)- Two people have been arrested following a drug bust in Binghamton.

On Friday January 24, 49 year old Thomas Newman and 36 year old Jessica Sheftall were arrested after members of the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at 98 Crestmont Road.

Investigators found approximately 3 grams of Cocaine, drug packaging materials, a loaded handgun, ammunition and approximately $1,600 in suspected drug proceeds.

Newman faced charges including:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd – (sub 1) – a class B Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd – a class C Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd – a class D Felony
  • 2 counts – Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd – a class A Misdemeanor

Sheftall faced charges including:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd – (sub 1) – a class B Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm – a class E Felony
  • 2 counts – Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd – a class A Misdemeanor

Newman and Sheftall were both charged and arraigned in Binghamton City Court.

Sheftall was released from custody in compliance with the New York State Bail Reform Law. Newman was taken to the custody of the Broome County Jail.
