WHITNEY POINT (WBNG) -- The Dorchester Park ice fishing event that happens *almost* every year is at risk of being cancelled this year due to the lack of ice.

The Crappie Derby is set for February 15, but whether it happens or not depends on the next couple of weeks.

"There's three inches of ice here and we need 12 for the Crappie Derby and we have to make that decision by a week after Monday so doesn't look good," said Chairman Chuck Sweet.

The event was cancelled last year due to thin ice.
