NICHOLS (WBNG) -- The big game is this Sunday, but there's a new twist for the first time for how Southern Tier residents can celebrate.
Sports betting became legal in New York last July, so this is the first year community members will be able to bet on the Super Bowl at the FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs.
Staff members say they've been preparing for this day for quite a while, as they expect a lot of people to participate in the betting bonanza on Sunday. While other methods of gambling such as slot machines or blackjack have been legal in New York for a while, sports betting is brand new to the state.
Staff say the Super Bowl is very much expected to be one of their busiest days of the year, so staff are extremely excited to see their hard work pay off.
"Very excited. It's the first year of legal sports betting here, New York's been wanting it for a long time," said Noah Kirk, the Assistant Manager of the sportsbook. "It's very exciting. Its been a good season so far, so we're pretty pumped."
You don't have to wait until Sunday to place your Super Bowl bets, however. The sportsbook is open until midnight Friday and opens at 9am this weekend.
Some of the more basic bets are things like moneyline and spread, where you either bet on a team just to win the game, or to win or even lose the game by a certain amount.
