BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- A kick off event officially marks the start of planning and fundraising for Binghamton University's Relay for Life.

Dozens of students came out to the Printing House off-campus housing complex Friday night.

They're part of the campus-wide organization responsible for putting on the relay.

While the event isn't until April 24th, planning and fundraising initiatives start now to make the fundraiser to end cancer happen.

"A lot of people have been touched by cancer," says Alyssa Wei, Executive Director for Binghamton University's Relay for Life. "So it's really important to share everyone's story to realize the resources that we have in the area, and really just kind of get excited for what's to come."

The crowd focused on all coming together as one team through food, games, and sharing heartfelt stories on why the relay is so important to its organizers.

"The Roaring 20s" was revealed as this year's theme.
