HARPURSVILLE (WBNG) -- With temperatures rising this weekend, Broome County Parks and Recreation officials are making sure the Broome County Parks Winterfest is still a blast.
Winterfest is taking place at Nathaniel Cole Park. Broome County Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services Director, Liz Woidt, says they've had similar events in the past, but this is the first year they will be having a big extravaganza.
As warmer weather approaches for the weekend, Woidt says she's not worried about most of the activities being impacted.
We're not going to lose too much ice in a day like that," said Woidt. "Maybe we will lose a little bit of the snow so sledding might be tough for people who do bring their own sleds, but other than that, everything is going to go as planned."
Meanwhile, she says her department is continuously working to make sure the event is safe with the rules and regulations it follows. She says they measure the thickness of the ice everyday to make sure it is safe for people to go fishing or ice skating.
Beer Tree will be present to provide drinks and the Colseville Fire Department will be cooking up hot dogs and burgers for people to enjoy. The event will have ice fishing, ice skating, games, and much more.
Broome County Parks Winterfest starts at 12 p.m., with ice fishing beginning earlier, at Nathaniel Cole Park.
