(WBNG) -- The Broome County Department of Public Transportation has received a $1 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration.
Democratic congressman Anthony Brindisi from New York's 22nd District announced the grant on Saturday. The congressman secured the funds through the CARES Act which was passed earlier this year.
The money in in addition to $10.7 million already secured by Brindisi for BC Transit. Funds will be used to provide operating assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our transit systems are essential in keeping our communities running while the Southern Tier reopens, and these dollars will ensure Broome County Transit has the resources they need to keep moving and serving our communities safely,” Brindisi said in an official press release. “I’m working every day to bring back funding to our communities and I will continue advocating for relief for Upstate New York.”
