ITHACA (WBNG) -- If you're tired of wearing a face mask now, experts say expect it to become the new normal.

Before the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S. a few months ago, many people would have never imagined the daily impacts the virus would have on their lives.

Now, medical experts like Ruth Collins at Cornell University, say these changes are the new reality, with no signs of the pandemic ending anytime soon.

"People should be wearing masks until the epidemic is over basically. And we don't know when that's going to be, it's going to be minimum a few, a couple of years," Collins told 12 News.

She added gestures like shaking someone'S hand could become a thing of the past.
