Man charged with 2 felonies, 3 misdemeanors following break-in, domestic dispute

TOWN OF GUILFORD, N.Y. (WBNG) -- A Norwich man was arrested on numerous charges in the town of Guilford on Aug. 8.

The New York State Police Department says it arrested 45-year-old Jeremy A. Squires of Norwich, N.Y. and charged him with burglary in the 2nd degree and criminal contempt in the 1st degree, both felonies.

Police say he was also charged with the misdemeanors of assault in the 3rd degree, criminal mischief in the 4th degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say troopers were dispatched to a home on County Highway 35 for a report of a domestic dispute. Squires had left the scene before troopers arrived, police say.

A victim told troopers that Squires broke into their home, prevented them from calling for help and "struck" them, police say. Authorities noted this occurred in front of a child.

Police found and arrested Squires in Norwich. He was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

The victim was treated at a hospital.
