BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Industry leaders are calling for Governor Andrew Cuomo to release regulations required in the Hemp Extract Law.
New York Hemp Action Day is six press conferences throughout the state held by hemp industry leaders.
Kaelan Castetter, CEO of Empire Standard & Castetter Cannabis Group, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Broome County Executive Jason Garnar were in attendance.
The regulations are expected to help make New York a global leader in the hemp industry.
Industry leaders are asking Governor Cuomo to release the regulations to level the playing field with other states in the industry.
The regulations that were written in the bill include what kind of products to make -- what labels to put on them and the standards for retailers.
Assemblywoman Lupardo says this sector is poised for product development and retailers.
"More importantly this is an opportunity for consumers to know that New York has the safest and most reliable products grown by New York farmers and are produced in the safest way possible," Lupardo said.
