BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- After seeing an increase in demand for social services, the Salvation Army announced they are launching their annual holiday campaign early.

The organization started the campaign, 'Rescue Christmas', after seeing an increase of clients during the pandemic.

The Salvation Army is expecting a possible 50 percent decrease in funding they usually see during their Red Kettle Campaign that begins in November.

The organization wants to get the word out now on the different ways people can donate.

Captain Joesph Hansen, Salvation Army of Binghamton Core Officer, says getting the word out now is important because they know some of their clients are going to be struggling during the holidays.

"People will realize there are those who are struggling," Hansen said. "This pandemic has really hit some people hard. And we are going to need their help in order to get these people through."

The kettles for the Red Kettle campaign are not currently up during this campaign, but are set to be placed in various locations around Broome County in November.

Those wishing to donate can use Apple Pay, Google Pay and the Salvation Army's website to donate.
