ENDICOTT (WBNG) -- It's Child Passenger Safety Week and New York's Traffic Safety Committee sponsored free car seat checks across the state.
Here in the Southern Tier, the Endicott Fire Department teamed up with the Broome County Health Department to help families make sure their car seats were installed properly.
Christine Muss, Traffic Safety Coordinator for the Broome County Health Department says some of the more common mistakes they encounter are car seats that were too loose or seats with the wrong straps used to attach them.
"You're dealing with precious cargo. These kids can't speak up for themselves and tell you that they're not buckled right, so it's important as a parent and caregiver you understand how to properly install your car seat," she said.
