TOWN OF CHENANGO (WBNG) - When Chenango Forks won the state championship last December, the team was already looking forward to the 2020 season.
Little did they know, it would be ten months before they would return to the field together.
"I'm just so thankful that we did end up getting something, especially for my senior year," said senior quarterback Ray Austin. "It's really been nice to be out here with all my friends and coaches."
"You just miss being around all the guys, so the fact that we can get together in a group again is exciting," said senior Lucas Scott.
The team spent day one working on agility drills and getting back in shape while keeping their social distance.
"It is hard because you want to go talk to your friends and stuff but you always have to remember that you have to keep your distance and you can't be doing this stuff anymore," said Austin.
The team's goal this fall is to stay focused and stay ready for the spring season, which is set to begin in March.
"We can do stuff with our teammates too just socially distant like throwing pass patterns and stuff like that so I'm just trying to keep in shape for when the games come," said Austin.
Forks plans to use every practice stay motivated to remain on top of the Section IV football world.
"I just keep thinking about last season, we finished really strong and it was a great season so that really pushes everyone to keep going," said junior Dubbs Haqq.
