JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- Your Home Public Library in Johnson City is participating in Banned Books Week, this week.
The week began in 1982 in response to many banned or challenged books being removed from schools and public libraries.
During the week, the library is encouraging people to read books that are on the banned book list.
The library has some of the banned books on display like ‘Twilight’ series and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’.
Maryse Quinn, youth services librarian, says if you’re planning on participating in the week to look at things you might not look at, in a more objective way.
“Keep in mind that everyone else’s sensitivities and beliefs are different from yours, particularly,” Quinn said. “So that frightens you or offends you might not bother anybody else and vise versa.”
