(WBNG) -- The 2020 NHL Draft began Tuesday night.
With the number one overall pick, the New York Rangers selected Alexis Lafreniere. The forward led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in points and was named the Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year in back-to-back years.
With the 7th overall pick, the New Jersey Devils took forward Alexander Holtz.
The 18-year-old described his game as "very offensive."
"I'm a goal scorer, I love scoring goals," said Holtz on a Zoom call shortly after he was drafted. "I think my overall game is good, but yeah my best asset is in the offensive zone of course."
Holtz spent the past season playing in the Sweden Hockey League.
With the 18th overall pick, the Devils selected center Dawson Mercer, and with the 20th pick the Devils took defenceman Shakir Mukhamadullin.
The Buffalo Sabres took forward Jack Quinn with the 8th overall pick.
