VESTAL (WBNG) - After spending months away from the field, workouts are underway for Vestal High School athletes.
The school has started light and is working its way up. Initial workouts have consisted of socially distant outdoor activities, with equipment sanitized every few minutes. All athletes required to wear a mask.
"Obviously it's not like indoors, we can't do any weight lifting, but just getting out there and working out, it's just nice to do something different instead of sitting around all day," said Vestal junior Jarek Podest.
Senior Kiley Marconi was a part of last year's field hockey trip to regionals. Also a member of the Vestal lacrosse team, Marconi will now have to focus on playing both sports in the span of a few months.
"It will probably be a lot because my sports will likely overlap but I will make it work for my senior season and just push it out," said Marconi.
Podest is also a two sport athlete playing basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring.
"A little different than what we used to do because we aren't able to do as much but it's been good just getting out here," said Podest.
Both athletes are using these fall workouts to stay motivated and get in shape for what they anticipate being a busy spring.
"I just continue to push myself in these workouts and remember how much I love the game," said Marconi.
"Obviously it's nice to get out here and try and adjust to the new normal," said Podest.
The school hopes to return to individual team workouts in the coming weeks.
