ENDICOTT (WBNG) -- The Union-Endicott athletic department honored Howard "Shorty" Bowen Wednesday afternoon for fifty years of service to the Union-Endicott football team.

Bowen has been a fixture of the Tigers football program, leaving a mark on players and coaches through the years.

While the program was hoping to have a larger celebration during football season, today's celebration consisted of a few players, coach Tommy Baleno and other members of the athletic department and Bowen's family.

Bowen was gifted customized cleats, a helmet and a certificate of appreciation.

"I said to them a long time ago, they're family," said Bowen. "Doesn't make any different what team, what kids, what coach whatever. They get treated with respect, they get taken care of and when they walk out of here they know UE football takes care of the people when they come in here."
