CHENANGO COUNTY (WBNG) -- Health officials in Chenango County say their contact tracing efforts are being slowed as the number of new cases in the county continues to rise.
Officials are asking the public for their help with tracing all contacts.
They say if you know you had contact with someone with the coronavirus and you do not hear from the county health department, they ask you to contact the health department yourself after a day or two.
Officials say they have multiple priorities to see to including contact tracing efforts.
Barbara Ryan, Chenango County Director of Patient Services says the help from the community will "relieve some burden on our contact tracing team, because not only will we be doing contact tracing, but we will also be at the beginning of the COVID vaccination process", Ryan says.
Health officials ask if you know you've been exposed to the coronavirus to self-quarantine immediately, no matter what, and do not wait for the health department to contact you.
