NEW YORK (WBNG) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo gave an update on the state's progress with the coronavirus, showing a statewide positivity rate of above 7%.
He said 887 patients were reported to be newly admitted into hospitals around the state yesterday, with the number of patients in the ICU reaching above 1,000.
Governor Cuomo said in a statement Saturday, "We have the vaccine, and that is good news, but it will be months before we've reached critical mass, making it as important as ever that we do not let COVID fatigue get the best of us."
Here in the Southern Tier, it was reported 43% of hospital beds in COVID units are available, 37% of ICU beds are available, and the rate of positivity over the last three days (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) is 5.72%.
"The state is working around the clock with the medical community to not only ensure vaccines are distributed as quickly and efficiently as possible," Cuomo said.
Yesterday the state reported 128 COVID-related deaths bringing the statewide total to 30,337 since the start of the pandemic.
