(WBNG) -- The Owego Hose Team is the winner of a two thousand dollar grant from Upstate Shredding for Southern Tier Tuesdays.
Patrick Gavin, a volunteer with the Owego Hose Team, says the team competes against other fire departments in New York State to sharpen their firefighting skills so they can perform quickly when responding to a fire scene.
The Owego Hose Team is also focusing on community based restoration projects. The non-profit restored the Baker Fireman's Fountain in Downtown Owego. Now they are working to restore the Steam Fire Engine that was used by the Owego Fire Department from 1866-1926. The team is also building a Steamer House to showcase the historical piece of equipment in Downtown Owego.
