VESTAL (WBNG) -- January 9. is national law enforcement appreciation day.
The Vestal Police Department wrote on its Facebook page that they'd like to let the men and women of their department know they appreciate them and their work.
For Lieutenant Christopher Streno at Vestal PD, becoming an officer was a choice he made 24 years ago because he says he wanted to help make the world a better place.
And while Lt. Streno says the position has highs and lows, he says there are many rewarding moments.
"We don't come to work to be appreciated or to be recognized. We come to serve our community and the citizens within the community and that's it," said Lieutenant Sterno, adding, "To have someone appreciate you, or make the comment or any kind of gesture that shows their appreciation, always goes a long way and makes us feel really good about what we do."
Lieutenant Streno adds that the Vestal PD is committed to being one with the community, highlighting past outreach events, and says there is always room for improvement and growth.
