MARGARETVILLE, N.Y. (WBNG) -- On Jan. 7, Trooper Mitchell Reed was three-minutes away when he heard a high priority call being dispatched to Delaware County.
New York State Police say around 9:30 a.m., a man working for a tree removal service was at a residence on Dry Brook Road in Margaretville when his leg got caught in a woodchipper. Two people at the scene were able to help free the man's leg by putting the woodchipper in reverse, then applied a belt to his leg to stop the bleeding, but it wasn't enough.
State police say when Trooper Reed arrived, he used his tourniquet to slow down the bleeding until EMS arrived.
They say the man was transported to Margaretville Hospital and then transferred to Albany Medical for treatment.
