HARRISBURG, PA (WBNG) -- Pennsylvania has introduced a new online platform to file state taxes that is completely free.

It's called the Pennsylvania Tax Hub, or myPATH.

The state is encouraging Pennsylvanians to take advantage of the program as opposed to paying another online platform to file. The platform is limited to Pennsylvania state taxes.

Jeffrey Johnson is the spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and says the goal is to get as many residents to use the platform as possible.

"We just want to provide another option for folks who do have income concerns that this free option is available for them to file their Pennsylvania returns," he says.

He adds that the IRS also offers a program that is similar and allows Americans to file their federal tax returns for free.
