People may visit loved ones in nursing homes with restrictions in place

Nursing Home Deaths

(WBNG) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo has offered guidance on how visitation will work for nursing homes.

Beginning Feb. 26, visitors will be allowed to visit residents with some restrictions.

The guidance is based on county levels of COVID-19.

The guidance includes:

  • Visitors will not need to test for COVID-19 if the county level of the virus is 5% or less.
  • Visitors will need to take a COVID-19 test within 24 hours if the county level of the virus is between 5% and 10%.
  • Visitation will not be allowed into a nursing home if the county level of the virus is greater than 10% unless it's for compassionate care.
  • The maximum number of visitors allowed into a nursing home is equal to 20% of the nursing home's residential population.
