Binghamton baseball drops doubleheader to Hartford

HARTFORD, CT (WBNG) -- The Binghamton baseball team was swept by Hartford 2-1 and 6-2 Sunday afternoon.

Final score Game 1:

Hartford - 2 (2-1, 2-1 AE), Binghamton - 1 (1-2, 1-2 AE)

In the fifth inning, the Bearcats tied the game after center fielder Shane Marshall plated shortstop Jake Evans with an RBI groundout.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hartford sealed the win in walkoff fashion with the bases loaded and a hit batter to score the winning run.

Binghamton's Jack Collings pitched six innings and had five strikeouts. He held the Hawks to one run on five hits.

Hartford - 2 (3-1, 3-1 AE), Binghamton - 1 (1-3, 1-3 AE)

The Bearcats had the lead in the top of the second before Hartford took the lead scoring two runs in the third, one in the sixth and three in the seventh.

In the second inning, third baseman Justin Drpich and designated hitter Eric Madenberg hit back-to-back singles. Evans delievered an RBI groundout to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead.

In the eighth, left fielder Tommy Reifler hit a lead double. Two batters later, he came in to score after Marshall's second RBI of the day.

Binghamton's Josh Kopcza pitched five innings and allowed one earned run.

Binghamton hosts UMass Lowell Saturday and Sunday at NYSEG Stadium.
