Broome Co. (WBNG) -- The Broome County Sheriff's Office has a new team member, K9 Apollo!
In a Facebook post, Broome County Sheriff David E. Harder said that Apollo will be partnered with Deputy Mark Hamilton, a 4-year veteran, of the Sheriff’s Office. They will work in the Patrol Division to protect and serve the residents of Broome County.
Harder said Deputy Hamilton traveled to Jay, Florida last month to bond and train with K9 Apollo at a private facility named ‘K9 Robbyfarm’.
K9 Robbyfarm is a premier training facility that selects, tests, and trains working dogs.
The Sheriff's Office said the training Deputy Hamilton attended lasted four weeks and was funded by donations made to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Canine Trust account.
K9 Apollo is a 12-month-old Dutch Shepherd. The Sheriff's Office said he will continue his training in obedience, narcotics detection, tracking, building searches, apprehension, and patrol work.
In the Facebook post, they said K9 Apollo has a friendly, approachable demeanor and, when fully trained, will participate in K9 demonstrations with the public.
