Binghamton women’s soccer advances to America East championship game


(WBNG) -- The Binghamton women's soccer team defeated top-seeded UMass Lowell 1-0 in the America East semifinals Thursday afternoon.

The Bearcats will take on Stony Brook or Vermont in the title game Saturday at 5 p.m.

Senior Dora Hayes scored the lone goal of the game in the 54th minute of play.

Goalie Haylee Poltorak made four saves in her fourth shoutout in the last five games.

Final score:

UMass Lowell - 0 (5-2-1), Binghamton -1 (6-1)  

This win marks the Bearcats first playoff win in nine years, and their first trip to the championship game since 2009.

The Bearcats only championship title came in 2004.
