BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- A new hockey team is coming to Binghamton.

County officials announced Wednesday that the Binghamton Black Bears will make their home at the Visions Federal Credit Union Veterans Memorial Arena.

The team is part of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. The Black Bears will start playing in October.

On May 7, Arena Manager Chris Marion told 12 News that a new hockey team could come to Binghamton sometime in 2021 following the departure of the Binghamton Devils, who are relocating to Utica, N.Y.

In mid-April, 12 News reported that there was a dispute between the Binghamton Devils and the New Jersey Devils which put the future of hockey in the city in question.

The Federal Hockey League is not affiliated with the AHL or the ECHL.

This is a developing story. Stay with 12 News for more information.
