United Way of Broome County now offers texting services

(WBNG) -- The United Way of Broome County's 211 Susquehanna River Region is now offering a texting feature to support the community.

The United Way said you can text your zip code to 898211 and be immediately connected to an Information & Referral Specialist that can assist you with your needs including housing, utilities, food, elder services and other needs.

The 211 Susquehanna River Region text-line offers immediate help for people who are dealing with mental health issues, drug addiction, family violence or other situations that overwhelm their ability to cope.

Texting will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The service is available in English. The service is not a replacement for 911 or 411 services.

The service is available for people in Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties.
