(WBNG) -- As over half of the New York State population received at least one dose of the vaccine, you may be wondering what you should do with your vaccine card after getting the second dose.

In this edition of You Ask, We Answer, we answered the question: should I get my COVID-19 vaccine card laminated?

Broome County Health Department Director Rebecca Kaufman said you shouldn't laminate the card. With the possibility of needing a booster shot in the next nine to 12 months, the vaccine card should be kept for when it's time to document your next dose.

Kaufman suggests using the New York State Excelsior Pass if you're worried about losing or damaging your card.

If you already got your card laminated Kaufman said it's, "not a big deal. We will have cards available when you get that booster shot."

Kaufman said she believes there will be a better system for documenting your COVID-19 vaccinations in the future. If you lost your card, she said you should contact the site where you received your vaccine to get a new one.
