Eastern Broome Senior Center, Meal on Wheels close due to ongoing manhunt

Office for Aging

HARPURSVILLE (WBNG) -- Two Broome County Office for Aging services, the Eastern Broome Senior Center, and Harpursville Meals on Wheels are closed Thursday due to an ongoing police investigation in which a New York State Trooper was shot.

County officials said in a news release that people who get food from the program will not receive a meal Thursday. They are asked to use their emergency food supply.

Officials have also asked residents to stay inside and keep their doors locked.

This follows the Windsor and Harpursville school districts moving to remote learning for the day at the request of New York State Police due to the ongoing investigation.

Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a home on East Windsor Road for a welfare check.

A female New York State Trooper also responded to the incident and was shot once in the hip, authorities said. State Police identified her as Trooper Becky Seager. She has been on the force for seven years.

The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Jason D. Johnson. For more information on the shooting, click here.
