ITHACA (WBNG) -- For almost 100 years, Hoy Field has been the home of Cornell Baseball, but in the next few years, that will change.

On May 24, Cornell University filed plans that outlined a new facility. The field is currently located in the middle of campus but is being moved to the Cornell-owned agricultural fields near the corner of Ellis Hollow Road and Game Farm Road.

The new facility will feature synthetic turf, expanded seating and a state-of-the-art 15,160 square-foot facility fully equipped with locker rooms, players lounges, batting cages and a new press box.

The field will keep the name Hoy Field, after 1891 graduate David F. Hoy, who was a longtime-faculty baseball advisor.

The sketches of the facilities are headed to planning boards where they await full approval: which can take a few months.

Once approved, it is likely the construction will be done and the field will be ready by Spring 2023.
