Students from the ’13 Visionaries’ accepts ‘Champions of Change’ award

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Broome-Tioga BOCES was presented another “Champions of Change” award from the New York State School Boards Association Tuesday.

The statewide award is designed to recognize programs striving to create positive change for students, families and communities.

Students from the "13 Visionaries" attended to accept the award. Alongside them was the New Visions Business Academy Instructor Julie Keenan. The BOCES Board of Education President Sandy Ruffo was happy to present the award.

"13 Visionaries" is a student-run business in BOCES New Visions Business Academy through the Junior Achievement program.

Principal of The Center for Career and Technical Excellence Matt Sheehan, says the students "became a close-knit community." He also praises them for coming from 13 different school districts, 13 different backgrounds, and they are able to "make this work."

Sheehan also says he can't be more proud of the students and staff.

The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce has recognized the impact of creativity, innovation and commitment these students have had because of their community service.
