DORCHESTER PARK (WBNG) -- Kim Downs, the former executive director for Whitney Point Preschool & Daycare, has reached a new chapter in her life: retirement.
Since 1989, Downs has held the role of executive director.
"I'm passionate about providing quality care and programming for young children, especially in a rural area where options aren't as great as they are in an urban area," said Downs. "If I may, this is really a story about the community. I've just been blessed to be the person that sat in the seat that got to pull people together."
To honor her service and dedication, Downs' family, friends and former colleagues gathered at Dorchester Park for a retirement celebration on Thursday, July 15.
"I would like to thank Kim on behalf of every child, every family, every community member she has affected for 35 years," said Rick Wheeler, the first president of Whitney Point Preschool and Daycare. "We will miss her, we won't forget her, and her legacy will live on."
Now that Kim has retired from the position, her husband, David, is excited to travel and use their state park pass.
