OWEGO (WBNG) --This year for the First Friday tradition in Owego, the village has decided to focus on one theme, which is ‘Art in Motion’.
“Art in all of its shapes and forms. So a lot of times, people think sculpting or painting or illustration,” says organizer Bradley Crews.
He mentions that coming out to an event like this is a great way to stay local and not have to travel far. “Everything's within like two or three blocks. So you can visit four different hops, two different restaurants, the bar, two art galleries. It's all just concentrated in this beautiful little town.”
Crews adds that it supports the local economy, which was hit hard during the pandemic.
Also taking place tonight, August 6, is a campaign on empowering women-owned businesses in the area.
Chris Knickerbocker, owner of Old Souls Home, says she was inspired after being featured in a women empowerment magazine.
Throughout Owego, you can find women-led businesses thanks to banners placed outside the store windows.
