VESTAL (WBNG) -- Monday's FDA announcement that the Pfizer vaccine would be fully approved triggered a vaccine mandate for students within the SUNY system.
The blanket policy has been in place for months in anticipation of the announcement.
The mandate includes a 35-day period for students to compete their vaccine series.
If students don't complete the vaccine series within the 35 day period, they will be de-registered from their courses.
SUNY provided 12 News with a statement on the mandate:
"As has been the case from the very start, we are confident our students will continue to do the right thing to protect themselves, their families and their campus community. We urge faculty and staff to continue to be vaccinated as well. We welcome the FDA approval and are now yet another step closer to beating this virus and ensuring our campuses provide a safe learning environment for all our students."Statement from SUNY on vaccine mandate
Binghamton University said around 95% of all on-campus students have provided proof of vaccination, with around 90% of all students providing proof.
