TOWN OF CHENANGO (WBNG) -- For the Chenango Forks Blue Devils, this season isn't just about getting back into the postseason.
"We talk about team," said head coach Dave Hogan. "I'm not sure we're going to have one person that stands out. I think we're going to have a lot. That team mentality is really powerful."
This season is also about balance. Hogan said balance starts with doing the little things first.
"Those little things when they add up they become big things," said Hogan. "The more we reinforce that and once our leaders buy into that then we are home free. The underclassmen will follow our leaders for sure."
The coaching staff will be looking for balance on and off the field as they replace some of their key two-way players from last season.
"It's a lot of different positions to fill but we feel we have the depth to do it," said senior running back and cornerback Reese Zukosky.
There are some key positions the Blue Devils won't have to worry about replacing this season, especially on the offensive and defensive line, with center and defensive end, Matt Brewster, returning for his final high school season.
"The stuff that you do here is stuff you carry on for the rest of your life," said Brewster. "Forks football has transformed me as a person. It really has."
Zukosky is also returning for his senior season and he's ready to help out wherever he can.
"I just want to be a solid contributor to the team and continue to do my part and help us win," said Zukosky.
With the Blue Devils focusing on balance and the little things, these will be the keys to help them keep improving throughout the season.
"It's going to be fun to watch them grow," said Hogan. "They're growing already. No matter where we start we're just going to keep getting better. We're really looking forward to that."
Chenango Forks opens the season on the road against Maine-Endwell on September 10 at 7 p.m.
