VESTAL (WBNG) -- For the first time since 2019, Binghamton University will host a 'Family Weekend' with a wide range of activities. For some students on campus, such as the now-sophomores, this will be the first time they will welcome their families to the campus.
Assistant Director of Parent Family Activities for the University Linda Salmons says they are anticipating more families this year due to canceling the event last year. She says it's not just about what happens on campus, it's also about supporting the local community as well, as it brings business to a lot of the restaurants.
"So I just think feeling good about Binghamton. feeling the spirit, feeling the activity on campus; I think all of that will just be really great this year."
Salmons says they are following New York State and SUNY guidelines to ensure a safe and fun weekend for everyone.
Due to the number of people anticipated for this year's Family Weekend, the Vestal Police say not to worry about the traffic, as the department is aware of all campus events, and will be on standby if the need for their services were to arise.
