Dancing is a great way to get some exercise, have some fun and meet new people. There is a big dance community in the Southern Tier and there are many opportunities are coming up for people to try out different types of dance.
The Binghamton Community Dance group is encourage community members to come and try fun and lively dancing that is welcoming to everyone; no partner is required; and no previous experience is required.
All dances are called, and there is always live music.
English and Contra dancing have historic origins, but new dances and music continue to be written, so it is a living art.
Contradance is one of the most enjoyable, exciting, fun activities you will ever experience. Everyone is welcome and it’s easy to learn, so newcomers are especially encouraged. Contradance is highly energetic, low-impact, and everyone is very friendly. All dances are taught, with a caller reminding everyone of the moves throughout. As the dance progresses, partners switch places with other pairs of dancers so everyone eventually dances with everyone else as they move along the line.
Contra Dance will be on Saturday, January 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the hall at Trinity Memorial Church on 44 Main Street. Tickets are $8 for adults, students and under 18 are $7, with a family maximum of $17.
