DIGGING DEEPER: A timeline of store closures at the Oakdale Mall

JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) — In the past two years multiple stores have closed in the Oakdale Mall.

That includes two anchor stores. Now two others are set to close at the Johnson City location.

This leaves just two anchor stores left, JCPenney and Burlington.

Faded imprints of old Macy’s and Sears signs are all that remain of those former anchor stores at the Oakdale Mall.

In March 2017 Macy’s closed its doors for good. Later that year in September, Sears also shut its gates.

The number of store closures in recent years has raised questions about the mall’s future.

Now in 2018, New York and Company has confirmed it too will be leaving to Oakdale Mall in July.

Bon-Ton announced the winning bid in an auction for the company’s assets Wednesday. All stores including the Johnson City location are set to close before the end of August.

The Oakdale Mall has been a staple shopping center in Johnson City and Broome County for decades but the question is now can it survive this hurdle, or is the mall dead?
