Local restaurants compete in 9th annual ‘Fresh Food Face Off’

TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) — Restaurants put their culinary skills to the test Wednesday night and competed to see who could whip up the best dish. 

Cornell Cooperative Extension kicked off its ninth annual ‘Fresh Food Face Off.’

"It’s just a good time," said William Peacock of Endicott. "The food is fantastic just from year to year."

Tickets were $50 for the event and $90 for couples. Proceeds go back to Cornell Cooperative Extension programs. 

People had the chance to try out local food a long with wineries and breweries. 

"Just sort of meeting and greeting new people,"said Jay Pisculli a chef with Craft and Social on State. "It’s always fun. We get face time. As a chef you’re always hidden in the kitchen somewhere and so just kind of representing your restaurant and your product."

The winners included The McKinley for best taste in beef. Social on State for best taste in chicken. The Lost Dog for best taste in vegetarian. Old Barn Hollow for best taste in dessert.

"The chefs are using local ingredients," said Cornell Cooperative Extension Executive Director Victoria Giarratano. "They come on Saturday. They shop at the Regional Farmer’s Market. They buy all of their ingredients and then they go back to their restaurants and figure out how to make the best people’s choice award." 

Lampy’s took home the people’s choice award. Organizers say they plan on having the same event again next year.
