OWEGO (WBNG) — The Village of Owego board voted against a zoning change that would have allowed a controversial land development plan.

Property owners wanted to turn land near Southside Drive into 20 affordable housing duplexes.

The village board needed to vote to change the zoning classification to allow multiple residences on one piece of land.

Monday’s vote against the change means the project will not happen.

The boards vote was 6 to 1 against.
