Ponies play comeback kids, sweep doubleheader

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) – On Saturday, the Rumble Ponies came back in two consecutive games to sweep the doubleheader against Erie. Binghamton was able to win both games, 6-5.

In game one, down by three in the sixth, the Rumble Ponies bats came alive. The big blow came from an RBI triple by Arismendy Alcantara to give Binghamton a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Mike Gibbons struck out six in five innings to earn win.

Game one final score:

Erie – 5 (7-5), Binghamton – 6 (6-4) 

In game two Binghamton had to comeback again after finding themselves down by three in the seventh inning. After homering the inning before, Dario Pizzano gave Binghamton the lead with a two run double.

Matt Blackham shut the door to earn his first Double-A save.

Game two final score:

Erie – 5 (7-6), Binghamton – 6 (7-4)

The Rumble Ponies are off on Sunday before beginning a series in Akron on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
