BINGHAMTON (WBNG) – The Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena is gearing up for some major upgrades.
Arena officials are working to looking to work with a consultant to come up with a transformation plan that will bring the space up to modern standards.
Everything appears on the table for renovations though some key things are upgrading the floor and seating areas, making the arena more accessible, technology upgrades, as well as food upgrades.
The total estimated cost is expected to range anywhere from $35 to $40 million dollars.
When it comes to adding capacity to a landlocked building, the arena has a few options.
“We can add a new type of suppression system that will allow us to have more people on the floor,” General Manager Chris Marion told 12 News. “We can go from the top of the seating area and enclose that to add more seats off the top to have a deck style seating at the top row.”
The next step for Arena officials is to draft a plan and then solicit ideas from the tenants and the community,.
After that comes the process of applying for funding,.
The project should take two to four years from start to finish.
